Lioness Magotho Dec 2011Day 1-2: Moremi

Here land and Delta meet to create an exceedingly picturesque preserve of floodplains– either seasonally or perennially wet, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian, riverine and mopane forests.

This makes for spectacular game viewing and bird watching, including all major naturally occurring herbivore and carnivore species in the region, and over 400 species of birds. Both Black and White Rhino have recently been re-introduced, now making the reserve a ‘Big Five’ destination.

It is the only Game Reserve inside the World Heritage listed Okavango Delta. Some of the exclusive campsites we use could be the in the Garden of Eden the scenery is so lovely! There are several different habitats in Moremi. We have 2 nights at Xini Lagoon and depending on game movements will explore the area from 3rd Bridge to Black Pools.

Leoprad Relaxing Botswana SafariDay 3-4: Savuti

We have a long drive from Moremi into Chobe National Park, to Savuti.

The Savuti Channel in northern Botswana is a famous waterway in a thrilling state of flux. For a quarter of a century, the Savuti Channel was dry, creating wide-open grassland, home to both quantities and varieties of wildlife. In 2008, the waters returned, and abundant game congregated in its wake and in 2015 the water dried up again making for many interesting dynamics. We don’t know when it will flow again.

In the rainy season Savuti attracts many grazers to its short sweet grasses, and a large number of Zebra and Wildebeest congregate on the Marsh. There is a site where ancient San rock art can be seen after a small but steep climb. It is humbling to see. A beautiful island of 13 Baobab trees makes a wonderful excursion and is a wonderful site to photograph.

We have 2 nights at a site next to the Channel.

Ulinda Tent ChobeDay 5-6: Chobe

We again move camp to the Chobe River, about 5 hours drive away. The first glimpse of the Chobe River – deep and dazzling is always breathtaking. One of Africa’s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unparalleled anywhere else in the country. Established in 1968, the park encompasses floodplains, swamps and woodland. The Chobe River is famous for its large herds of elephants and Cape Buffalo, which converge upon the river to drink.

The river is host to a stunning array of birdlife, and a 3-hour boat cruise is taken to take advantage of this. If lucky you will see Elephants swimming.

The sites we stay in here are completely undeveloped, everything must be taken in to them- even water and nothing left behind, so they remain pristine. They offer an untouched wilderness experience a few hundred metres from the Chobe River, and you can watch stunning sunsets with a backdrop of elephants and buffalo a few minutes from our tented camp.

The-Victoria-FallsDay 7-8: Victoria Falls

The upmarket Boutique Guest Lodge within easy walking distance of town is modern and tastefully decorated. It’s small and personal and by far the best choice in its price range. This eco friendly lodge is just 2.5 kilometres from the Victoria Falls entrance.

Batonka offers 22 tastefully designed and decorated, spacious rooms each with its own small balcony. TV, wifi, air-conditioning, universal chargers, mosquito nets and a tea and coffee station are standard in every room. The large modern en-suite bathrooms are really stunning. Inter-leading family rooms are available.

The large central area encompasses the reception, curio shop, lounge and indoor dining room as well as a very large outside terrace which overlooks the gardens and swimming pool. This terrace, with a nice coffee bar is an ideal place to relax and chat to fellow travellers take in a coffee or opt to eat your meals here.
