EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED
Four Man canvas dome tents are used, sleeping two people each, or 3 people in the case of a couple and a child. Single people are housed in 2 men dome tents.
Good camp stretchers with bedrolls made up like a normal bed, pillow, small table and towel are supplied.
Clients are advised to bring their own torch or head lamp, soap, toiletries, beer holder, sunscreen, binoculars, camera with zoom lense, films and a hat. If you bring a video camera it is suggested that you also bring a 12 volt charger so batteries can be charged by the Unimog.
Vehicles are fitted with Inverters so that digital equipment can be charged daily.
A shower is supplied with hot, warm or cold water depending on the weather, and a toilet is set up for each five people in camp.
We also supply chairs and tables for general dining and carry large quantities of food, both dry and fresh. The Unimog is fitted with a 60 litre deep freeze, which enables us to keep perishables frozen for days at a time, and in addition to this we carry several cold boxes. The Unimog is also fitted with a 120 litre water tank.
FOOD AND DRINKS
All meals are prepared and supplied by us. Food is simple, wholesome and tasty. Generally the day starts with toast, muesli or porridge (depending on the weather), fruit, yoghurt, tea and coffee.
If a long drive is in the offing a hearty cooked breakfast can be served. Depending on the itinerary and sightings, lunch is usually eaten along the way or at arrival, and consists of cold meats, salads, tuna, crispbread, wholemeal rolls, cheese etc. Simple snacks such as cheese on crackers, dips, potato chips, fresh popcorn and nuts are served with drinks in the evening. Dinner is generally something like a stew, pasta or rice dish (meat or chicken) with fresh salad and vegetables. Vegetarians are catered for on request.
A reasonable quantity of juices, beer and local wines are supplied. Drinking water is of course unlimited, with an electrolyte replacement powder for hot weather, to prevent dehydration.
Local spirits can be requested prior to the trip and will be catered for wherever possible. Let us know if you are bringing Spirits and require mixers.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
Minimum age is 12 years unless by prior arrangement or on a private Safari (minimum of 6). Clients must have an adventurous spirit, as often at night the sounds of Lion and Hyena can be heard close at hand, rather unnerving for the faint hearted.
No maximum age has been set, but reasonable health and fitness is essential. My 82 year old father loves coming on our Safari’s!!
It must be noted that September, October and November can be very hot (up to 40C) and humid.
ROUTINE
Clients are normally met in Maun or Kasane and driven to the first place on their itinerary. We normally drive to our camping spot first, where the vehicle is unloaded of camping equipment and left with the camp staff to erect. After lunch or refreshments, we then go for a game drive for the rest of the afternoon, before returning to our camp generally after sunset, for snacks and sundowners around the camp fire.
In the morning, clients are woken at first light, and served with tea, coffee, muesli and toast, before departing on the early morning game drive. Flexibility is the key to be able to take advantage of game viewing possibilities - it is essential to be able to adapt.
We usually carry “emergency” snacks in case we come across something we don’t want to leave – if we return to camp for lunch we generally have a siesta/rest period, followed by an afternoon game drive, returning to camp after sunset for snacks and sundowners. I try and find a special place for sunset and have a sundowner there before returning to our camp.
